NZIFF title gets sad boost

One of this year’s NZIFF selections, Green Room, which will screen at this evening’s launch in Auckland, garnered some unexpected publicity today with the announcement of the death of one of its leads, Anton Yelchin (pictured top, right in Green Room).

Yelchin, aged 27, died in a vehicle accident at his Los Angeles home on the weekend.

Green Room has won a bunch of awards at genre festivals since its premiere in Cannes Directors Fortnight last year. It will screen in the NZIFF’s Incredibly Strange selection.

Yelchin will appear in five films yet to release, the first of which will be Star Trek Beyond, also featuring Karl Urban.

Tickets for the Auckland leg of the NZIFF go on sale from Friday 24 June. Wellington programme will be available from Friday 24 June and tickets on sale from Thursday 30 June. The NZIFF will run in Auckland 14 – 31 July; Wellington 22 July – 7 August; Christchurch 28 July – 14 August; Dunedin 4 – 21 August. Dates for other centres are available at nziff.co.nz.
