NZWG spreads more seed

The NZWG has awarded grants to Jonothan Cullinane, Ross Hastings and Jason Lei Howden in the second round of Seed Grants for 2015.

47 applications were culled to a shortlist of five, with assessors James Griffin, Peter Cox and Michele Fantl making their recommendations.

The announcement was made on Friday, hours before Howden presented the NZ premiere of his Make My Movie winner Deathgasm at a raucous NZIFF screening in Auckland. Cullinane’s best known for 2007 SPP feature We’re Here To Help. Hastings has worked on a long line of mostly kids fare including Jane and the Dragon and, in the UK, BBC kids shows including Angelina Ballerina, Bob The Builder, Thomas The Tank Engine and others. He’s also worked on local adult dramas Agent Anna and The Almighty Johnsons.

The Seed Grants scheme awards grants of $10,000, including $2,500 for a Script Consultant, for the development of feature film projects. This year’s first round awarded Steve Barr & Casey Whelan, Daryl Belbin, Charlie Bleakley, Cushla Dillon and Matthew Nagel.

The year’s third and final round has two remaining grants to award, the submission deadline being 16 October.
