The New Blood Web Series Competition, for which the vox pop vote closed on Thursday, has been won by Ashleigh Reid and Isla Macleod’s pilot for Oddly Even.
Over 160 pilots were submitted to the competition, from which a panel of judges put forward 10 for public voting via TVNZ. The 10 pilots were viewed more than 38,000 times all up. 8,600 votes were cast, of which Oddly Even took 24%.
The pilot beat off stiff competition, including entries from creators with strong web series credentials including Luci Hare (Auckward Love), Roberto Nascimento (The Adventures of Suzy Boon) and Morgan Leigh Stewart (K Rd Stories).
Reid and McLeod get $100,000 from TVNZ and NZ On Air to create a full web series, which will release via TVNZ’s OD platform. TVNZ’s Digital Creative Director, Amie Mills, is excited to see fresh faces win the competition.
“The competition is titled New Blood, and we’re seeing just that. Ashleigh, Isla and their team are a passionate, talented group of under-25’s who have beaten out some very tough competition to turn their pilot turned into a full web series. I can’t wait to see the full season.”
