After a regular flow of honours to members of the screen industries in recent years, only a couple of names cropped up on the list for the 2015 New Year Honours.
Actress Lisa Harrow was named an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit, and was pretty much the sole screen-related honoree in the list. Harrow, “of South Woodstock, United States of America”, was honoured for services to the dramatic arts.
Harrow has spent much of her career in the UK and returned to NZ in 2013 for South Pacific Pictures’ Step Dave, having directed Auckland University’s Summer Shakespeare, King Lear that year.
Becoming a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) is producer Stan Wolfgramm, whose Drum Productions created TV3’s Pacific Beat Street. Wolfgramm also created the 2013 Film Raro challenge, which saw eight teams of filmmakers shipped to the Cook Islands to make short films and run workshops upskilling locals in production techniques.
