PGA awards choose black and white

The biggest differences between the Academy’s Best Film list and the Producers Guild of America (PGA) list are in hue. Sicario and Straight Outta Compton, offering up substantial numbers of roles for Latino and African-American actors respectively, are nominated for the top feature gong at the PGA awards but not the Oscars.

Among the seven titles nominated at both events is expat producer Finola Dwyer, for the Saoirse Ronan-led Brooklyn. Another expat, Phil Keoghan, sees the (very regular) occurence of The Amazing Race being nominated, in the Competition TV category.

Not ones to dilly dally, the PGA will hold its award ceremony this Sunday (NZ time). This year’s nominees are:
