Gaylene Preston has won the Arts & Culture award at this year’s Women of Influence awards. The only screen industry nominee in the category, Preston triumphed over 10 other nominees including three from Massey Uni and Angela Meyer, Anna Dean’s partner in Double Denim.
Preston has 11 New Zealand Film Awards, is an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit and is a previous board member of the NZFC and NZ on Air. Earlier this year she supported the Gaylene Preston Directors Award with the NZFC, which in late August named three winners: Armagan Ballantyne, Alyx Duncan and Gillian Ashurst
2014 Animfx presenter and founder of OMG Tech Michelle Dickinson, aka Nanogirl, took the win in the Innovation and Science category. Dickinson won over a field including Magic Leap’s Rachna Bhasin and Webstock’s Natasha Lampard.
Last year’s winner of the category, Mind Lab founder and former head of Media Design School Frances Valintine, was among the judges this time around.
Another judge, former chair of TVNZ and Sky board member Dame Rosanne Meo, took the event’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The winners of the Women of Influence Awards, presented by Fairfax Media and Westpac, were announced at a dinner at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland on 12 October.
