Marc Mateo died on 12 June after a 25-year career in film and TV. Mateo worked in lighting and camera, as a gaffer for several years, on features including Boy and The Warriors Way. In recent years he worked as a DOP.
David Blyth, for whose features Wound and Ghost Bride Mateo was DOP, called Mateo “the hardest working DOP I have ever encountered who had a special understanding of composition and light”.
As well as Blyth’s features, Mateo was DOP on a number of shorts including Maria-Elena Doyle’s Meniscus, Colin Hodson’s Maul and Rajneel Singh’s Big Bad Wolves.
Mateo’s funeral will be held Piha Domain on the afternoon of Friday 19 June. A trust fund has been set up for his daughter Tiger. Contributions can be made here.
