Shorts advance in Oscar race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 10 live action and 10 animated short films that will advance in the voting process for the 89th Academy Awards®. 137 live action shorts and 69 animated shorts qualified for consideration.

Members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch viewed all the eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting. Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will now select five nominees in each category from among the 10 titles on the shortlist.

Nominations for the 89th Oscars will be announced on 25 January (NZ date). The 89th Oscars will be held on Monday 27 February (NZ date).
