Shorts win at RIIFF

Matthew Saville’s Dive and Ivan Barge’s Madam Black have both been awarded at the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF).

Matthew Saville’s Oscar-qualified Dive

Dive took first prize in the festival’s Vortex Sci-Fi & Fantasy category, sharing that honour with American director Thoranna Sigurdardottir’s Zelos. Mathew Miller’s Subterranea pipped both titles to take the Grand Prize. For reasons unknown, Dive was identified as an Australian title at RIIFF.

Dive won Oscar qualification last November when it took the Best Film award at Show Me Shorts.

Madam Black won first prize in RIIFF’s Director’s Choice Award category, with American director Sarah Smith’s D.Asian taking the Grand Prize. Barge;s short recently took the NZ’s Best Audience Award.

The Rhode Island International Film Festival ran 4 – 9 August.
