Running in Utah alongside Sundance and X-Dance, the 2017 Slamdance Film Festival has named the narrative and documentary feature selections which will play in competition.
Alt-er than Sundance, tamer than X-Dance, Slamdance has an Aussie narrative feature and doc feature in the running.
Shumin Liu’s Australia-China co-pro The Family plays in the narrative competition, having premiered in Venice this September. It’s since played the Lisbon festival, where it took the Grand Prize. The Family competes in an 11-title line-up, selection for which is restricted to first-time feature filmmakers.
Pete Gleeson’s doco Hotel Coolgardie premiered at Hot Docs and played this year’s NZIFF. Eight titles will compete for the documentary award.
Slamdance will run 20 – 16 January in Park City, Utah.
