Step Dave steps out with strong finale

As drama series often do, Step Dave became a story of diminishing ratings returns as its first season progressed. It closed last night with a big jump in numbers that took it back above 200,000 viewers.

Despite the comeback, the South Pacific Pictures show still finished third in its slot, well behind TV One’s Britain’s Got Talent, which started 15 minutes ahead of Step Dave and drew 347,550. TV3’s NCIS, which began 10 minutes ahead of Step Dave, had 302,240 viewers.

Step Dave’s 244,900 was its best ratings performance since the show’s opening two episodes. Those opening episodes won their slot, beating TV3’s NCIS and TV One`s Hidden Kingdoms.

The average 5+ performance for Step Dave across the whole season was 208,500. We’ll wait and see whether TVNZ and NZ On Air decide that number is big enough to warrant taking step two.
