Sundance 2016 unveils first titles

Sticking very close to home, Sundance announces the eight American and one UK-Jordan titles that will make up 2016’s Midnight at Park City line-up.

Among the line-up is Jim Hosking’s The Greasy Strangler (pictured, top), on which Ant Timpson is a producer. All films selected will have their world premieres at Sundance.

Coming towards the close of a year in which “diversity” has been a regular topic of conversation in the industry here and elsewhere, the festival is either brave or foolish in making its first programme announcement one of titles that are 100% written and directed by men. The festival is quick to point out that seven of this year’s titles “feature badass leading ladies”.

There are plenty more programme announcements to come between now and Christmas. Sundance 2016 will run 21 – 31 January in Utah.
