SWANZ fades in on 3rd edition

The third-time lucky edition of the Script Writers Awards New Zealand comes with a new date and venue and, as if it wasn`t enough fun all on its own, kicks off a weekend of screen industry activity.

The shift from November to a winter gala event on 31 August might cause some goosebumps, but at the time the NZWG committed to the date change, Executive Director Steven Gannaway wanted to put some calendar space between SWANZ and the other industry awards bash, the AFTAs. Unbeknownst, a few doors down Ponsonby Road, AFTA sponsors the SDGNZ were also making changes to pull the plug on that event.

The SWANZ event also shifts venue this year, from Parnell to the Classic, home of Script to Screen`s monthly Writers Room sessions. Script to Screen is running the Big Screen Symposium which runs the same weekend as the SWANZ bash, on 1 and 2 September, hosted by the University of Auckland. More details on that event will be coming before the end of this month.

SWANZ introduces a new category this year, the Best Unproduced Feature Film Script, offering the winner $500 and the chance to get in the face of a few producers.

The other categories continue as Best: Feature Film Script, Short Film Script, Play, TV Drama Script: One-off, TV Drama Script: Episode, TV Comedy Script: Episode, Documentary Script, Radio Play and New Writer.

The SWANZ call for entries is now open, and closes on 29 June. More info is available on the NZWG website.
