This year`s SWANZ bash announces new finalists and a new host to go with its new date and venue. Te Radar takes over the hosting duties with former host Oscar Kightley nominated this time around (for Best Feature Film Script for Sione`s Wedding with James Griffin).
Griffin is one of three writers up for awards in consecutive years along with Gavin Strawhan and Nick Ward. Strawhan took a share in two awards last year, for Best Television Drama Episode (Nothing Trivial, Episode 1 with Rachel Lang) and Best Feature Film Script (Matariki with Michael Bennett).
Lambs, which picked up some gongs and cash at the NZFF`s inaugural short film competition recently, is nominated here for Best Short Film Script.
This year`s SWANZ runs Friday 31 August at the Classic in Auckland, offering the “best party/ceremony ratio in the history of awards evenings”. Tickets (NZWG Members $40, NZWG Non-Members $60) are available from NZWG.

On 22 August, the NZWG announced the finalists in its inaugural Unproduced Feature Film Script category, with some familiar names making the cut and half the entries being turned out by two writers.
Linda Niccol leads the way with three scripts named among the final ten finalists. Niccol has a number of short film credits and a co-writer credit on Paul Murphy`s debut feature Second Hand Wedding to her name.
With two finalist entries, Shortland Street script typist Casey Whelan is the other multiple nominee. Two years ago, Whelan was selected for the NZWG/NZFC-supported mentorship programme to develop feature scripts with Alan Sharp (Dean Spanley, Rob Roy, The Osterman Weekend).
SWANZ does its annual dash at the Civic in Auckland on Friday 31 August. Tickets from NZWG.
