The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful ride Golden Horse

Asia’s most prestigious festival awards ceremony, Taiwan’s Golden Horse, handed out its gongs on Saturday night with local thriller The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful (pictured, top) taking three awards: Best Feature, Actress (Kara WAI) and Supporting Actress (newcomer Vicky CHEN).

The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful‘s Ya-che YANG (Girlfriend Boyfriend, Orz Boyz) missed out on the Best Director award. That gong went to Vivian Qu for her Venice-premiered drama Angels Wear White, which had earlier in the week opened the Singapore International Film Festival.

The most-awarded film of the evening was Hsin-yao Huang’s dramedy The Great Buddha+, which was shot on an iPhone. The Great Buddha+ took away five awards: Best New Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Original Film Score and Original Film Song.

The evening’s other multiple awardee was Jiajia Zhang’s See You Tomorrow, produced and co-written by Hong Kong’s arthouse master, Wong Kar Wai. The film took three craft awards: Best Visual Effects, Art Direction, and Makeup & Costume Design – the latter for Wong’s longtime collaborator William Suk-Ping Chang.
