The Strength of Water at APSA

Producer Fiona Copland combined a Maori script, German money, pakeha director, Polish cinematographer, an English editor and some non-professional actors to make Strength of Water. Recipe for disaster? Not according to the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, which nominated it as a finalist in the Best Children’s Film category.
The Strength of Water was nominated for Best Children’s Feature Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, held on the Gold Coast last night. It had a budget that producer Fiona Copland simply describes as “low”.

Karl Baumgartner of Pandora (Whale Rider, Underground, Irina Palm and Tulpan) at Cinemart on the strength of the director’s reel and story, and received an immediate offer from him to co-produce with money from Filmstiftung NRW.
