Thunderbirds Are Go-ing to America

Pukeko Pictures, Wellington, 11 February 2016: Thunderbirds Are Go, ITV Studios and New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures’ major new reinvention of the iconic children’s series, will launch in the US as an Amazon Original Kids Series on Prime Video, following an exclusive, multi-year deal between Amazon and ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE).
The agreement will see the first 13 episodes of Thunderbirds Are Go launch on Prime Video in the US later this year, and subsequently debut on Prime Video in the UK, Germany and Austria.
Dan Gopal, EVP EMEA Distribution and Global Digital Partners for ITV Studios Global Entertainment said: “We are delighted to be working with Amazon to launch Thunderbirds Are Go in the US; their position as an innovative content provider and their passion for the show makes them the perfect partner. Our strategy is to give audiences the flexibility to watch our content any time, any place, and the launch of Thunderbirds Are Go on Amazon Prime Video means children and families across the US, as well as in the UK, Germany and Austria, will be able to watch the entire series whenever and wherever they want.”
Steve Green, EVP Kids’ Content and Distribution for ITV Studios Global Entertainment added: “Thunderbirds Are Go has already proven to be compelling viewing in multiple markets for kids and families. We are delighted that we can extend this experience to a partner like Amazon with their massive audience in the US, Germany, Austria and the UK.”
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with ITV Studios Global Entertainment on a world-renowned property that kids and families today will embrace,” said Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios. “Our customers will enjoy the same action and adventure found on the classic series infused with a contemporary aesthetic and visually stunning world.”
Thunderbirds Are Go is a reinvention of the classic Thunderbirds series 50 years on from its TV debut. Featuring the world’s most famous family of heroes, International Rescue, and starring Rosamund Pike (The World’s End, Gone Girl) as Lady Penelope, Thunderbirds Are Go blasts the five brave Tracy brothers back on to television screens piloting their incredible vehicles into impossible rescues across the globe.
Produced by ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures in collaboration with world-famous Weta Workshop, the series is made using a unique mixture of CGI animation and live-action model sets, delivering a new level of action-adventure animation for today’s audience while paying tribute to the legacy of model locations from the original series.
Thunderbirds Are Go has been sold to more than 40 countries worldwide, with Australia’s public service broadcaster, the ABC, the latest to acquire the series. There are also more than 75 licensees on board the consumer products programme globally. It has aired in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the Netherlands, with the UK premiere on ITV and CITV attracting a consolidated audience of close to three million viewers.
