Thunderbirds Are Go! to launch at MipJunior

Cannes’ own OctoberFest MIPCOM turns 30 this year, making it a mere 20 years younger than the original Thunderbirds, but age is only a number and this year Junior will present the world premiere of Thunderbirds Are Go!.

The show is a co-production between the UK’s ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures, in collaboration with Weta Workshop. The new 26 x 30’ series will debut in the UK in the first half of 2015.

Thunderbirds Are Go! voice cast is led by Rosamund Pike (The World’s End) who plays Lady Penelope, while Thunderbirds veteran David Graham (who also voiced Brains, Thunderbird 4 aquanaut Gordon Tracy and sundry extras in the original series) will reprise his role as chauffeur Aloysius ‘Nosey’ Parker. The new voice cast also includes Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Phineas & Ferb, Game of Thrones).

While Thunderbirds Are Go! is MipJunior’s first ever world premiere screening, it’s good to get cut-through. At the market the show will be one of well over a thousand on offer from over 50 countries.

This year’s MipJunior conference Programming for Connected Kids focuses on publishing, licensing and digital opportunities for TV properties, links in the income chain few NZ companies have as yet exploited. Commissioning 360 addresses licensing strategies for connected generations.

MIPJunior will run in Cannes 11-12 October, ahead of MIPCOM which runs 13-16 October.
