Oscar-winning Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki (Ponyo, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) hired Anno as a young animator for his Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Rising to become a director, Anno has created several successful film and TV shows, from 1990’s NADIA THE SECRET OF BLUE WATER through a TV adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion to the ongoing EVANGELION series of films.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (NOT) Alone and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (NOT) Advance screened here in Madman’s 2010 Reel Anime Festival, with the most recent instalment, 2012’s Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (NOT) Redo appearing in last year’s edition.

TIFF’s “World of Hideaki Anno” will include screenings of around 50 of Anno’s works.
