TIFF opens doors early

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) runs late October but gets a substantial head start, announcing a pair of world premieres to open and close the event.

Disney’s Big Hero 6 will open the proceedings. Directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), the animated feature is set in the fictional metropolis of San Fransokyo (a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo).

Takashi Yamazaki’s Parasyte, from Hitoshi Iwaaki’s 1990-1995 manga of the same name, has been adapted into a live action film and will close the festival.

Both features will be making their world premiere screenings at the event.

The 27th edition of TIFF will run 23 – 31 October in Tokyo. TIFF’s accompany market event TIFFCOM will run 21 – 23 October.
