The next batch of programme announcements out of Toronto names Pietra Brettkelly’s A Flickering Truth for its North American premiere in the festival’s documentary line-up. It’s the sole NZ title named for the festival so far.
A Flickering Truth will have its world premiere in Venice before heading to Canada.
Also named in Toronto’s doco line-up are a pair of Australian titles, Gillian Armstrong’s Women He’s Undressed and Jennifer Peedom’s Sherpa. Both are currently screening here in the NZIFF.
Amy Berg, whose West of Memphis was produced by Peter Jackson, has Janis: Little Girl Blue selected. It adds to the death-by-excess sub-genre of rockumentaries currently also offering another NZIFF title, Amy.
Toronto also announced its Classic and Vanguard programmes; a grab-bag of several Berlin and Cannes-premiered titles in its Masters line-up; and the Midnight Madness programme, which last year featured What We Do in the Shadows. This year’s Midnight Madness offers mostly US fare, plus NZIFF Incredibly Strange selection Yakuza Apocalypse and – 10 years after the original – Thailand’s Tony Jaa (Ong Bak) in SPL 2.
The Toronto International Film Festival runs 10 – 20 September.
