Fresh from collecting good reviews in Toronto, The Dead Lands’ Toa Fraser will talk directing in a Big Screen Symposium session.
Following the Dead Lands’ premiere in Toronto, screeNZ’s Laszlo Kriston caught up with Fraser and producer Matthew Metcalfe.
The programme for the third edition of the BSS is now available online, allowing organised souls the chance to start planning for what’s shaping to be a busy weekend. Only a couple of slots remain to be filled now, but there are already some hard choices to be made as being in two places at once remains a challenge.
While (without offence to this year’s speakers) there isn’t as big a name as last year’s Park Chan-Wook, there might be less diva to deal with this time around, which should make organisers’ lives easier and offer attendees a more enlightening and enjoyable experience.
Fraser’s producer on Dead Lands (and Giselle and Dean Spanley) Matthew Metcalfe will present a financing masterclass during the weekend. Continuing the “good year for NZ features” theme, most of the What We Do team, writer-directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi and producer Chelsea Winstanley, will discuss marketing and distribution.
The Big Screen Symposium runs 27 and 28 September at the University of Auckland.
