Tribeca’s Ingrid Kopp to lead Doc Edge Lab

Interactive storytelling innovator Ingrid Kopp from Tribeca Film Institute will lead the 4th DOC EDGE LAB 2014 held in September. DOC EDGE LAB is an intensive two-day incubator with inspiring presentations from international non-fiction transmedia experts that will educate and inspire all digital transmedia storytellers.

Kopp says, ‘I’m very excited to work with Documentary Edge. It has become one of our goals at Tribeca Film Institute to have a much more global approach when it comes to all our digital initiatives and I am looking forward to discovering and nurturing projects from New Zealand.’

Kopp is known for her ‘make the web, don’t just use it’ approach to digital storytelling. Beginning her career in the documentary department at UK’s Channel 4 in 2000, she took the role of director of digital initiatives at Tribeca Film Institute in New York 12 years later. Kopp oversees funding of interactive non-fiction projects through the TFI New Media Fund and curates the Storyscapes section of the Tribeca Film Festival. Kopp pioneered Tribeca Hacks and TFI Interactive, creating a space for
storytellers, technologists and designers to collaborate and experiment in the field of interactive digital work.

Dan Shanan, Documentary Edge executive director, says: ‘This is a tremendous opportunity to build relationships between Documentary Edge and Tribeca Film Institute while providing great opportunities for our filmmakers. Kopp is a respected leader and TFI Digital Initiative s is a critical force in the digital storytelling world.’

Joining Kopp is international expert and award winner, John-Paul Marin, an Executive Producer Online for SBS Australia.

DOC EDGE LAB covers topics including what makes a good interactive documentary, how to develop your ideas, new trends in digital interactive storytelling and how to reach a global audience. The experts will also offer in-depth case studies of groundbreaking work, round-table project discussions and, for selected project teams, one-on-one mentorship and guidance.

DOC EDGE LAB 2014 will run on 15 and 16 September at Auckland University of Technology.

Applications close 4pm, Friday 22 August 2014. Selected participants will be announced on 29 August 2014. For information on the application process, go here.
