The Unitec-hosted Uni Shorts International Student Film Festival has named 25 finalists for its 2016 edition.
For those who like to plan ahead, the Post-Graduate Film category is the one to enter next year, as only two finalists were named for this year. One of those is Hash Perambalam’s Not Like Her (pictured, top), a finalist at Show Me Shorts last year and winner of last year’s NZCS Allen Guilford Cinematography Award, presented to the cinematographer of a finalist film in the NZIFF NZ’s Best competition. Grant McKinnon won for Not Like Her.
Another local title that’s already a winner elsewhere is named a finalist in the Secondary School comeptition. Hunter Williams’ Nvader won the Connected Media Sustainable Future Award and was named the Body Shop Standout Winner at last year’s Outlook for Someday awards ceremony.
All up, 10 NZ films are named among the 25 finalists, five of them in the NZ-only secondary school category.
Organisers expect to confirm the October date for this year’s Uni Shorts very soon.
