In a deal announced on the weekend, Universal Pictures will now distribute all of Paramount’s home entertainment product in New Zealand. The deal covers Paramount and Nickelodeon releases, covers rental and retail and will run for three years.
Paramount’s overall theatrical box office so far in 2009 is up 3.5% from last year, with Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen its top grossing film. It took just shy of $8 million and entered the all time NZ top ten, finishing up at #8 above Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Mamma Mia!.
Transformers 2 gets its DVD release before the end of the year, along with Watchmen, Star Trek, Ghost Town andG.I. Joe.
Paramount currently handles theatrical distribution for Universal in New Zealand, covering around 45 titles this year.
