Vinnie Bennett a Rising Star

Human Traces’ actor Vinnie Bennett has been named one of four actors from outside of Canada selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Rising Stars talent programme.

The programme runs alongside TIFF.

In previous years the programme has selected Canadian actors only, but has this year expanded to hothouse four Canadian plus four international actors.

Bennett (Filthy Rich, Fantail, Beyond the Known World) will be joined by Mamoudou Athie (USA, The Get Down, Patti Cake$ and upcoming Unicorn Store which premieres at TIFF), Lina El Arabi (France, A Wedding and Kim Nguyen’s upcoming Eye on Juliet which has its North American premiere at TIFF) and Jessie Buckley (Ireland, BBC TV shows War and Peace, Taboo, upcoming TV shows The Woman in White, The Last Post and Beast, which has its world premiere at TIFF). As the other three actors’ current features are all announced for TIFF, it seems reasonable to assume that Human Traces will also be announced at some point.

The four previously-announced Canadians are Daniel Doheny, Mary Galloway, Théodore Pellerin and Ellen Wong.

The programme includes seminars with casting directors, one-on-one meetings, sessions with leading filmmakers, media training and other networking opportunities. Selections were made by TIFF’s Natalie Semotiuk, Lynne Crocker and Kathleen Drumm (whom older readers will remember from her time at the NZFC).

Vinnie Bennett is repped by Johnson & Laird. The Toronto International Film Festival runs 7 – 17 September.
