ScreenSafe has completed the first four of five sections in the New Zealand screen sector health and safety guidelines available online free at ScreenSafe.co.nz along with a selection of new templates.

ScreenSafe has been progressively developing the new guidelines to replace the old industry Code of Practice, with information and updated recommendations for best-practice under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (the “Act”), which came into effect in April 2016.

The guidelines are in five sections offering an easy-access resource outlining legal and moral responsibilities and procedures for identifying and understanding potential health and safety risks. They have been developed with expert input law firm Minters Ellison Rudd Watts.

ScreenSafe chair David Strong says the fifth and final section of the guidelines covering specific technical areas is in development and chapters will be uploaded as they are completed (to receive updates sign-up at ScreenSafe.co.nz). This section is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.

ScreenSafe.co.nz is the go to place for information, a single, central and free location for everyone to easily learn and understand what their obligations are under the Act.  You can also access useful new templates that have been developed to provide guidance for key working documents such as health and safety policies, risk registers and health and safety induction forms.

In April 2016 ScreenSafe ran a series of public seminars around the country discussing the Act, the guidelines and the role of ScreenSafe that was supported by representatives from Minters Ellison Rudd Watts and the NZFC.  ScreenSafe will undertake to run these seminars again once all the resources have been developed and uploaded.
