Taika Waititi’s Hunt For The Wilderpeople, adapted from the late Barry Crump’s Wild Pork and Watercress, begins production today.

Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders, Harry, Under the Mountain) and Julian Dennison (Paper Planes, Shopping) feature. The film will also introduce a young actress, who was the subject of of a well-promoted casting process earlier this year.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople picked up NZFC development support last year, and was offered $2 million in NZFC production investment just before Christmas. Curious, James Wallace Productions also have money in the production which has also acquired NZSPG support.

Waititi will produce with fellow founders of the Piki team, Carthew Neal and Leanne Saunders, and Curious’ Matt Noonan.

Madman has ANZ rights. The UK’s Protagonist Pictures (part-owned by Film 4) has international rights.
