The University of Canterbury’s Platform Arts Festival returns next week with Vincent Ward contributing heavily to the event’s film programme.Ward, whose name adorns an award to support visiting filmmakers announced at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival, will present a pair of his films, In Spring One Plants Alone and Rain of the Children and discuss the nature of documentary.
He’ll also take part in a session with the University’s Cinema Studies lecturer Mary Wiles discussing the theme of coming of age, with particular reference to his 1984 feature Vigil.
The Platform film programme also includes a screening of student works and hosting of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival. LASFF offers up a dozen titles.
Platform runs 11 – 21 September at the University’s Ilam campus. All events are free.
