South Pacific Pictures’ Westside took a gold medal at Wednesday’s New York Festivals’ Word’s Best (NYF) awards event in Las Vegas, running alongside the NAB Show.
SPP was the only NZ winner of a gold medal this year, and the only returning NZ winner this year. Last year SPP took a bronze for The Brokenwood Mysteries.
Westside cast members David de Lautour (Ted West) and Hannah Marshall (Joanne) were among the presenters at the event, and therefore on hand to collect the gong.
Of the other Kiwi finalists, all bar one was a winner. Imagination Television’s Rachel Hunter’s Tour of Beauty, Pacific Screen’s Gloriavale, Razor Films’ Predict My Future and Zoomslide’s Te Mana o te Moana – The Pacific Voyagers all took silver awards.
Wild Lens Productions’ Paddle for the North took a bronze. Zoomslide’s second finalist nomination, for Real Pasifik, was named a finalist but not a winner.
NZ judges this year were Alexander Behse, Simon Bennett and Donna Malane, a gold medallist last year with Field Punishment No 1.
Last year NHNZ won NYF gold with Life Force 2. It wasn’t a finalist at NYF this year, but sister companies Northern Pictures took two golds while Beach House Pictures took two golds and a bronze.
The New York Festivals World’s Best TV & Films awards ran 20 April (NZ time) in Las Vegas.
