Weta up for more Sci-Tech gongs

The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced 20 scientific and technical achievements, involving 11 distinct investigations, which are selected for further consideration for Academy Awards.

Weta Digital’s HiDef – Media Review System is one of eight achievements being considered under a broad VFX review category. The company also has FACETS (Directable Facial Motion Capture) and Prompted by Odin: A massively parallel simulation environment up for consideration.

The list is made public so anyone who thinks they’ve got a claim for “prior art” can submit before 1 September. Voting will follow further investigation, with awards to be presented on Sunday 14 February (NZ time). The Academy Awards will be presented on Monday 29 February (NZ time).
