Zachariah calls Aussie

Margot Robbie, formerly of Neighbours, most recently on bigger screens in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, has replaced Amanda Seyfried in the Tobey Maguire-produced feature Z for Zachariah now shooting in Canterbury.

When the project’s NZ shoot was confirmed just before Christmas, Seyfried was named in the release as taking the female lead role of Ann Burden. Seyfried’s reason for departing the project prior to shooting commencing is not announced. It’s assumed that delays (the project was intended to shoot last year) clashed with Seyfried’s other commitments.

Ring-in Robbie joins a cast led by Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) who competes against Robbie’s last male lead, The Wolf of Wall Street’s Leonardo DiCaprio, for the Best Actor gong at the Oscars.

Z for Zachariah is directed by Craig Zobel, from a script by Nissar Modi . The film is based on the 1974 Science Fiction children’s novel by Robert O’Brien, a thriller set in a remote valley which survives a nuclear holocaust.
